FINISHING UP

We worked on unit 35 on Monday. Steve, another volunteer from church, came and power washed  the house and the driveway. Betsy and I painted the house and at the end of the day Gary and Paul came over and lent a hand with painting.
Larry helped to  install new window in unit 37.
Yes, Gary you need to demolish this bathroom.

Don and Lou gave a hand.
Tub out and walls down to the studs.
Oh no the bathroom behind it wasn't to be done, but the tile and the drywall cracked since the walls of the bathrooms were against each other. So another room to renovate.
Gary and Don made a trip to the dumpster to put in the debris from the bathrooms
Larry helped Lane ( an maintenance employee) to remove all the water, sewer and electric lines behind another building they are renovating.
Thursday we finished up the painting at the homes we painted. Carol brought another member from out church, Theresa, to help.  They painted the window sills green at unit 35.
Larry painted the shutters for 57 and 58.
Danny helped and then gave me a hand painting the white around the screen porches on the back of 57 and 58.
Larry hung the shutters. By the end of Thursday we had this house completely painted inside and out.
Betsy and I vacuumed  the windows of all the little pieces that were left from when the windows were installed in unit 37.

A group of  11 men from PA had come for a week to volunteer.  They left on Wednesday so Betsy and I cleaned their rooms. Betsy cleaned the bathrooms and I washed all the sheets and towels.  There are very nice rooms for the volunteers to stay in.
This was our break room, every morning they had a little treat for us.
Tuesday Les and Maryann had us to their home for a delicious lunch. Jack and Bunny are their neighbors and they joined us. They all are retired missionaries from inland Africa. This a house the SOWERS built a few years ago. Les is at the end of the table and his wife is on his right. Bunny is next with Jack next to me. It was nice getting to know them a little more. Jack sings in the choir and  leads a Sunday school class at our church.
Thursday evening we ended our project with a meal at an Italian restaurant. Larry, Gary, Danny, Lou, Elaine, Jacque and Betsy.
Our church volunteers, Steve, Paul , Don and their wives. It was a different project and we were blessed with all the volunteers from the church, The African Inland Mission retirement center wouldn't be able to be maintained without many volunteers.  They are already asking when they can have NOMADS return.

BACK TO WORK

Larry was feeling much better by Monday and our team was back to work.
Gary painted the front and back door while Lou painted the wall in the back porches.
 Danny painted  around the windows.
Paul touched up some spots on the ceiling we had hit with the wall paint.
Larry power washed the back of the house.
We didn't even know  there was a patio back there. Power washing sure makes a difference.
Betsy (Gary's wife) and Elaine (Lou's wife) made up the beds and got the room ready for a volunteer to move in this week.
Lou  got the fixtures for the blinds hung up. And all the other fixtures in the house that needed  to be put back on.
 Gary hung the blinds,
 Betsy cleaned them.
Paul and Dave( another church member who helped all week) got the power washer going.
Dave power washed the rest of the houses. The white spots on the wall is where I painted kilz on the brown water spots.
By Tuesday Larry and some of the guys were across the street working on remodeling this house.
Gary, Larry and Danny working on removing the walls and all of the cabinets in the kitchen.

The wall between the two bedrooms was taken down, to make one large room
They will remove this door and wall it in and the door on the right will be the door for the larger room.
Dave taking apart a cabinet in the laundry room.
Gary feeling strong and mighty with the kitchen ripped out.
Since they were having so much fun destroying that house they were told the flooring on the house we had just painted needed to have the flooring ripped out. First the rug, which we had carefully not gotten paint on, and then the linoleum.  Paul and Gary worked hard to remove it.

Elaine giving the finishing touches to the kitchen in this house. It is ready for occupancy.
The outside of the houses needed painted. Betsy painted around the window and along the top,
Dave rolled the wall and I painted the bottom and around fixtures. By the end of the day we had the houses painted except for the garage doors and the white panels on the back porches. Can't wait to see what we get done next week.

NEW PROJECT IN FLORIDA

We are working at the African Inland Mission in Minneola, Fl as a community outreach project from the Clermont Methodist church, This is a large complex of houses where missionaries who served in the inland of Africa can come to retire. This week we worked on these two homes. The one on the right will house a long term volunteer and the one on the left will house a current resident who is moving to this house.
All of the rooms in each of the homes needed painted. Lou painted all week.

Lou is the only NOMAD who is parked at this facility. We only live 15 miles away so we decided to commute each day.
Gary was great at doing edging. He is a new NOMAD and this is his first project. He lives just a mile away so he too is commuting.

Danny has been the coordinator for having members from the First United Methodist church in Clermont come to work with  us. He worked hard all week.
Paul is a church member that came each day. He painted all of the doors in the hot garage.
Don, a friend of Gary's worked with us most of the week. The prep work takes lots of time before we start to paint. He went around and filled in all the holes.
Carol worked with us for a day. She was the perfect size for painting  that little closet.
Jacque, Danny's wife, helped out. She put all the switch plates back on.
By Wednesday we had the walls and all of the trim painted on this house. Gary helped hang the doors and put on the door knobs.
Danny put the fixtures back on the walls in the bathrooms.
Paul hung the racks in the closets.
Meanwhile Lou worked hard Wednesday getting the next house prepped so the team could come in and start rolling the walls on Thursday. This house will get new flooring in the kitchen and bathroom along with new cabinets and appliances.
Danny stated rolling the walls. We liked the color of this paint.
Carol came Thursday afternoon and helped get all the trim painted.
Jacque did wall inspection and found any spots that needed a little more paint. by the end of the day Thursday we had this house all painted except for the front and back door. Our team was very small, especially with Larry sick all week, but with help of our church volunteers we got a lot done.
