OUT OF WORK

On Monday mornings Elaine didn't start working at the store till after break, so she helped me install new tiles in the cafeteria bathroom.  I was sure glad for her help with that fan.
Robert had no big projects left for us to do this week so we were doing little odd jobs. Bill and our Robert made sure the gutters were all clean, especially that the downspouts.
Ogie cleaned off the leaves and twigs on the three buildings with large flat roofs.

A porch post on the activity buuilding was rotted and needed to be replaced. Larry and Gene worked on replacing it..
Robert and Gene cut the post to fix.
The new post painted and bolted on.
Monday night we watched  the total eclipse of the moon. It was a perfect night to watch it, and lucky for us we saw the total eclipse a little after midnight.
Bill cleaned the roof and the gutters of the garage.
One more office to paint. Ogie painted the walls
 and I did the trim.
Larry rode his bike around each day so he could  help get us any needed supplies. Otherwise we all did a lot of walking.
Gene and Robert put in some nice walkway tiles by this school room.
On Wednesday we decided to fix the fascia board on the garage and the tool shed. Walter fixed the garage while Gene worked on the tool shed.

It sure looks nicer with the boards repaired and the building painted. Our last paint job! There was no work left for us to do on Thursday.
There was an artist living in the trailer behind ours. He had been commissioned to paint this picture. Wow, what talent.
Gene and Elaine shared there talents with us. He made each of us a lovely embroidered tote and Elaine wove  beautiful book marks with NOMADS on them.
There were beautiful rose bushes around the grounds so I picked a few roses for each  of us. I found the little solar dancing flower at the 99 cent store to cheer each of us as we travel down the road. May it  remind us of all the work we accomplished and the friendships we made here at David and Margaret's.

WARM WEEK OF WORK

The weather this week was hot and sunny with temperatures in the 90's.

Bill painted the eves and the fascia around two of the cottages.
Caren and I were glad to get out of the sun and stuff sofa pillows into their cases.

The sprinkler system control box had sunk too low in the ground, so it was dug out and raised up so it would be level with the lawn.
Elaine continued working at the Bargain Boutique. We all enjoy shopping here and getting some food at discount prices, especially some yummy chocolates.
Finally she got to sort jewelry, but I think she liked packaging candy better.
The plastic shield into the basement needed to be replaced, so they could see through it with the fork lift.( Left side is old the right we had replaced) This had to be done after hours when they weren't unloading trucks and going in and out the entrance.
Robert, Larry and I worked on it.
Wow you can see through it to the other side!

We  started the week with finishing digging the holes for the trees. Walter and Robert helping us dig, it sure went a lot faster with them digging. We missed Anita this week, for her dad (93) was in the hospital and see had to stay with him. Walter was gone some of the days to give her some help.

Holes were dug, some of the dirt put back in and then we planted the trees.
Two trees planted, Robert gave them lots of water.
Bill put in a concrete mow strip by the cafeteria. Ogie gave him a helping hand.

The form was built so the concrete could be put in when the truck arrived.

Concrete dried, wood removed and dirt evened out. Looks great.

When the concrete truck came they filled in the driveway that we had to remove last week to put in the french drain. Another job finished.
Gene and Walter replacing a fascia board at one of the cottages.
Walter had to build a back for this bench.

We found two more bathrooms for Ogie to paint.

We had scraped this board and then Caren painted it.
The paint shed was a big project this week. Robert the maintenance supervisor kept telling us it was only a paint shed.
I helped scrap off the old paint.
Gene tore off some  of the roof that was rotting.
Some of the rotten boards on the side were removed and new boards put on.
After Walter, Gene and robert intalled the new portion of roof, Gene applied some tar.
The building was painted and roof fixed by the end of the week.
Saturday Larry and I went to San Anita Park.
We listened to this seminar and heard who they thought might be the winning horse in each of the 9 races.
The trumpet sounded so neat announcing the entrance of the horses for each race.
Some of the races were on dirt and some on turf. We had a fun day at the races.
On Palm Sunday we all went to the San Dimas Methodist Church.  Last period the NOMADS  worked here and they were very grateful for all the work they accomplished. It is a very small congregation.
