OUR LAST WEEK IN MINOT

 George smoked a pork butt for a delicious picnic for the team on the 4th of July.  On Saturday some of us went to the International Peace garden in Dunseith, ND and Boissebain, MB. It was a little over 100 miles away from Minot.

 After a week at Music Camp the students were having a concert. They sounded great, a lot of talent.The concert was in the Masonic building.The building is unique for it is in the shape of a square and compass.

 We had a full team this week. Wayne and Sue (on the left) joined us for a week.

 This is the Methodist church were we have been going to church.

 Their building in Minot was ruined in the flood. This building had been a restaurant and then a private home. With a few renovations inside it makes a very nice church building. It is close to the air force, so they are getting a lot of young couples.

 We went to the Badlands Grill  for lunch and get together after church.

 On Monday half the team worked on finishing up the trim at Stacy's home. Scott bought an oscillating saw to cut the drywall around the window.

 Larry had been looking at getting one for awhile so before lunch break was over he too was a proud new owner of an oscillating saw.

 Linda found ever hole and puttied them in.

 Larry put on the door knob and Deane and Scott finished framing out the door.

 By the end of the day Tuesday all we were asked to do was finished, so we took up the paper and Linda cleaned up the floor.

The last thing we did was Larry moved the electrical box over so we could frame in the back door he had installed.

The other part of our team worked over at Tim's house, where we had painted two weeks ago. Lynn put down the floor in the living room.

Wayne and Sue installed all the closet doors.

They put down the flooring in the bathrooms.

A well deserved break!

I helped Lynn with the flooring on Tuesday afternoon and all day Wednesday. I enjoy doing it. It brings back memories of Liz teaching me how to do it in Vandemere, NC on our first DR project.

On Wednesday afternoon this truck pulled in with a kitchen that had been donated.

Boxes filled the kitchen floor, so we couldn't start putting the floor in here.

George put in the molding around the bedrooms and framed in the doors. It was great having him as leader at this house, so Larry was free to work at the other homes.

The top cabinets were all hung by the end of the day on Thursday.

The vanity and sinks were in the bathrooms.

Someone else came in and laid all the carpet in the three bedrooms, so they are ready for Tim to move in.

Scott installed the two doors in the garage. I'm sure the team will have this house finished next week and Tim will be back in his home.

After we finished at Stacey's home we moved over a few streets and helped put siding on Steve's home.

There were three volunteers (two woman and a man) from the Presbyterian church in Bismark here for the week. The man was a professional siding installer and had brought all his equipment.

Larry framed in along the roof line of the porch so a drop ceiling could be installed.

We worked on the rear of the house. The scaffolding, the other team had brought with them, made it much easier to work on the peak. Deane and Steve putting on the paper.

Linda was the expert with the hammer. I need hammering lessons, I was much better at measuring and cutting the siding.

We got the siding up this far when we stopped on Thursday. The team from Bismark finished the back before they left on Friday.

 

Wednesday evening  we went with Wayne and Sue to MSU Summer Theatre to see Spamalot.

I had wanted to go see other productions they put on while we were here, but since it is an amphitheatre the weather was always too rainy or windy for us to attend. Tonight the weather was perfect and we really enjoyed the play.

At the end of the play there was a beautiful full moon. (upper right corner). A perfect ending to our stay in Minot.

We can't believe our four weeks are over and we are heading back to PA. We will be anxious to hear what other work gets accomplished in Minot at the annual meeting.

STACY'S HOME

 Friday evening we enjoyed the Tops in Blue performance that was free to the public. It was a great show with lot of talent. There is an air force base here in Minot.

On Sunday evening we went to eat at the Ground Round which is at the end of the street of the house we painted. That is how high the water was during the flood.

Our team has grown a little. Roger and Beverly (beside Larry) are new NOMADS and this is there first project.

 Then he installed the laminate.

 He then worked on framing out the windows and was disappointed that he didn't get them finished by the end of the day Thursday. They were only here for this week.

 By Thursday the wall was patched, textured, painted and stairs finished except to screw down the top platform.

 Deane and Scott hung the doors.

 Larry framed them out.

 Larry installed a new steel back door. Getting the locks installed presented some challenges.

 On Wednesday our team grew. George and Lynn will be the leaders when we leave, and since our team has been a little short handed they came in a few days early. Scott and George worked at finishing the home for a retired policeman, where many of the NOMADS have worked in the past.

 Lynn helped them on Wednesday putting  the knobs on the cabinets  and then helped us on Thursday installing the doorknobs..

 On Thursday the home owner surprised us with coffee and doughnuts, so we had a little coffee break before we cleaned up for the day. We made a lot of progress at this house this week and only have a few more things to do here next week.
