NO IDLE TIME

We are parked at the United Methodist church in Haleyville,AL.
There are enough sites for five rigs, this first week, March 25, there were four of us.Larry and Carol, David and Marilyn, Dennis and Nancy, and Larry and Dottie.
Mike, the construction site coordinator, showed us some homes we will be working on this  week while we wait for Janice's home to be built.
This is the home of Marilyn, who is in a wheel chair, because  her foot got infected and had to be amputated at the knee. Other volunteers had widened the bathroom door so the wheel chair would fit through and we were assigned to finish it.

The window had to be framed out, the walls primed and painted, towel bar and toilet paper fixtures hung. (sorry Carol and David your picture didn't post)
Larry (the other Larry) worked on making the bedroom closet larger so Marilyn could get into it.

She was having trouble moving her wheelchair on the carpeting so Larry and I tore it out.
We removed some of the floor boards,  repaired the rotting flooring and plumbing leak.
Larry and David  reinforced the floor. They also made her bedroom bathroom more accessible for her.

While the team was working on Marilyn's home some of us went to Geneva's home. There were just some small jobs needing to be done to finish it.
There was a gap between the bathroom and hall.
Dennis did a nice job of fixing it.
The ceiling in the kitchen was stained and peeling.
So Nancy and I scraped and painted it. Of course we then had to do the dining room ceiling also,or there would have been a line were one was white and the other was not so white.

We tried to put popcorn on the ceiling but the can was old and didn't work. The ceiling looks better just painted.
Larry installed a trim piece at the front door.
Dennis stained the door frame, so this house is now finished.
On Wednesday some of us drove to Tuscmbia , 40 miles away, to work on this home. Calvin is living in the front of this home and using the kitchen and bathroom the best he can.
A tree had fallen on the back. A new roof had been put on and the rafters were now dry enough to install insulation and drywall.  We removed the fascia board, which had large gaps where birds and squirrels were getting in.

David installed new boards and installed some aluminum  fascia.
 The ceiling in the backroom.
Nancy and Dennis worked all day installing the insulation in the rooms.
The light fixture in the kitchen need to be rewired.
 Larry worked on it.
He repaired the roof rafters in the rooms so the drywall could be installed.
 The bathroom ceiling.
Putting up the drywall took all of  us.
Installing  a new light in the kitchen.
We were glad when those last pieces of drywall were up, especially Dennis and Larry.
 Ceiling in the kitchen,
 ceiling in the backroom,
and in the bathroom. All with a working ceiling light. Calvin was very appreciative.
Lowe's was only a few miles from Calvin's home, so some shopping was done on the way home.
On Friday  Dennis, Nancy, Larry, Carol , Larry and I went to Dismals Canyon to take a hike.

It was a fun walk with a few challenges.
 Sure was pretty.
A beautiful spot to sit and rest.
Today is rainy so we are staying home and catching up on things - like rest.  Happy Easter

WHAT HOUSE?

When we arrived in Alabama we went to see the house we had been assigned to work on in Phil Campbell. We had received word that the house would not be ready for our team to start working on the week of the 25th. This is what we saw on the 18th, the foundation had just been poured on Friday.

Christian Aid Ministries will get this house under roof in a week!

There were storms all week , but when we stopped in on the 20th they were laying the concrete block.
On the weekend the weather had turned COLD and windy but  the walls were up by Tuesday afternoon, March 26.
Saturday when our team stopped by there was the house ready for us to start work on Monday.
Janice, whose home it is, still can't believe it is being built. She is living in her old home that was badly damage during the tornado in April 2011.
