BACK TO WORK

We pulled into the Oak Grove UMC on Saturday afternoon.
They put in RV hookups, so the NOMADS can stay here while we are working in Hattiesburg, MS.
This is the volunteer house where the 3R's (Response, Rescue, and Recovery) are located
 .

It was an old boarding house that they bought after Katrina to help house all the volunteers that came to town to help do rebuilds. This is the downstairs hallway with some office and rooms for volunteers.

Darrell is the Volunteer Center project Manager and has been a great help to us. He did a lot of the work in refurbishing this building. they even named a room in appreciation for his hard work.
One of the rooms upstairs where the volunteer sleep. There is also a large kitchen and eating area.

This map shows the path the EF4 tornado took through Hattiesburg on February 10,2013
Part of our team has been working at this home on E. 6th. This house had been stripped of everything (plumbing, wiring, etc.) while they waited for rebuild, that is why the windows are boarded up.
The inside needs a lot of work.
This week a header was installed, re floored the living room and dining room, all the rooms were prepared for insulation and dry wall, and steps were put on the back deck.
Suzanne and Walt are new NOMADS. They came on Saturday and are only here for a week. They got a chance to try their hands at different tasks.
This house on E 4th is where the NOMADS have been working for the past several weeks.
Suzanne helped to paint the walls and ceiling of the kitchen.
Walt removed the doors to the cabinet in the hall.
Carol primed and painted all the cabinet doors.
Dan reinforced the flooring in front of the sink.

The spaces were sealed and the linear flooring laid down,

On Thursday afternoon the  kitchen is ready for the linoleum to be installed on Monday.
I painted  5 doors and installed them. Then Carol and I installed the doorknobs, even the front door has one now.
The house across the street was demolished onThursday.
On Tuesday night Pastor Chris Young and his wife (on the left) had the team and some church members to their house for a delicious dinner.
Since Walt and Suzanne were leaving Thursday afternoon we went to Bianchi's for lunch instead of going out to eat Thursday evening for a farewell dinner for those who are leaving.
Carol and Marty were the leaders here in Hattiesburg the past three weeks. We enjoyed working with them this week. They are anxious to return home to Illinois after having been on projects the last 7 weeks.
